Salla Tykkä

Zoo has various similarities with Salla Tykkä’s earlier films, which investigate crucial moments in a woman’s experience. Tykkä situates the event in an inner sanctum, whilst casting the external environment and soundtrack in the leading roles. She readily toys with classic Hollywood conventions, evident in such titles as Lasso (2000) and Thriller (2001). In Zoo the smartly dressed blonde heroine, the condensed editing and the dramatic music are the primary forces which summon forth echoes of film history, especially reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock’s work.
