WEDNESDAY PROGRAM: Undamming Rivers

Wed 21 sep 20226:00 pm

Bonniers Konsthall and ArkDes invite you to an in-depth panel discussion on the issue of hydroelectricity, the environment and culture.

For the exhibition Undamming Rivers, Cooking Sections has produced a new work that addresses the process of removing hydroelectric dams. Sweden has thousands of dams built with the object of producing “clean energy” but many of them are now obsolete or produce very little energy, while their impact on the environment is considerable.

Bonniers Konsthall and ArkDes invite you to an in-depth panel discussion on the issue of hydroelectricity, the environment and culture. How damaging is the production of hydroelectricity to the environment? Who decides when a dam should be removed? How do these dams affect the local community and cultural heritage?

The panel consists of Christer Borg, secretary-general of Älvräddarnas Samorganisation, Stefan Mikaelsson, Board member, Sametinget, and Helena Thörnqvist, curator of working life at The Museum of Work and contact person, Vattenhistoriskt nätverk. The talk will be moderated by the author and journalist Gabriella Ahlström.
