Since the gallery doors first opened in 2006 Bonniers Konsthall has impartially granted space to contemporary art and the work of artists. The dialogue we maintain with artists imbues our activities and the building in general with its own individual nerve, and the working methods of our artists remain at the core of what we do.
Art is the starting-point from which we embark on discussions with our visitors, with other art forms such as literature, music and film, and with the community at large. It is through art’s strength and capacity to interpret and comprehend our times that Bonniers Konsthall retains its relevance
Bonniers Konsthall exhibits contemporary art from the globe over, granting space both to artists who are just beginning to acquaint themselves with a larger public, as well as featuring well-known names. We venture into new forms and territories and collaborate with artists in the evolution of new works. Bonniers Konsthall is one part of a long-term work in progress for creating and expanding knowledge and understanding of contemporary art through exhibitions publications talks and exchanges. Conveying the new is central to our work. For that reason each and every gallery host has a deep understanding of contemporary art, many also have their own artistic practices.
Bonniers Konsthall has its roots in the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation, which was created in 1985 by Jeanette Bonnier in memory of her daughter Maria. Every year, the foundation awards grants to young Swedish artists. Jeanette Bonnier also founded Bonniers Konsthall, as a physical embodiment for the work of the foundation and as a home for her love of art.
