Art critic Ingela Lind discusses past and present literary depictions of cities with poet and literary critic Anna Hallberg.
The second of our Wednesday evenings involves a discussion on the city as a literary space. Curator Camilla Larsson introduces the artists involved in the exhibition, many whom have been inspired by city-based writings. Carlos Garaicoa has read Italo Calvino and Jorge Luis Borges. Sophie Calle collaborated with Paul Auster, when he included her as a character in his novel Leviathan. Hala Elkoussy has taken inspiration from Egyptian authors and the poet Ibrahim Aslan. On this Wednesday evening, we will discuss whether artists and writers active today are able to live in and portray the city, which is considered the world over to be an exclusive place in which to live. Are other places more often depicted in Swedish literature, such as the suburbs and countryside?
