Queen of the Night – Ingela Ihrman, published by Bonniers Konsthall, is the first monograph on the Swedish artist, spanning over nearly two decades of her artistic practice – from 2006 to 2025. Through an extensive visual material from a range of performances and installation sites, the book showcases more than 35 of her most important artworks. New essays by curator Chus Martínez and art historian Anette Vandsø unfolds central themes in Ihrman’s practice and are accompanied by a conversation between Ihrman and editor Caroline Malmström and a preface by artistic director Joanna Nordin.
Queen of the Night – Ingela Ihrman borrows its title and graphic design (by Evelina Mohei) from one of the artist’s characteristic sculptural flower costumes, Queen of the Night (2009/2018), made by hand in basic craft techniques with simple and familiar, found, bought or recycled material. Overall, the book reflects the artists interest in the strong emotions of everyday life, and the desire to understand, question or express what it’s like to be alive, social, fertile or human.
