Wednesday program: Journalism, a matter of life and death

Wed 18 may 20226:00 pm

Photographic techniques and the potential of photography are central to Hrair Sarkissian’s practice. Photography has accompanied him throughout life – from his apprenticeship in his father’s photo lab Dream Color in Damascus, to the monumental conceptual works he creates today with a large-format camera.

Hear the award-winning photographer Paul Hansen on his work as a photo journalist. Hansen and Sarkissian share an interest in the photographic medium and their images address overlapping issues. In the lecture, Hansen will also reflect on the role and potential of photography, relating it to Sarkissian’s exhibition The Other Side of Silence.

In Swedish.

Paul Hansen is a photo journalist based in Stockholm. As a photographer for Dagens Nyheter, his assignments and self-initiated projects take him all over the world – and just round the corner. Often to war zones. Regardless of whether he is working in Haiti, Bosnia, Afghanistan or at home in Sweden, his work always has one common denominator: empathy.
