An entire evening of art with Johannes Heldén, including talks and live music
Bonniers Konsthall proudly presents a multimedia work by artist and author Johannes Heldén: Astroecology. Precisely where are we headed, as we manipulate DNA, species become extinct and climate change races full speed ahead? In Astroecology humanity is searching out any patterns in nature and existence, in order to understand them, control them and attain a sense of security. An experience of nature continuously brushing up against the potential of the digital static to transcend or extinguish. Zoom out as the pixels transform into stars.
Astroecology is both a book published by Albert Bonniers Förlag, as well as a series of performances at the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. The multimedia work takes the form of a website, which can be described as an interactive map and a way to experience the world of Astroecology. This event includes a unique viewing of the work in the Bonniers Konsthall Library. Johannes Heldén will read from the work, while Wildbirds & Peacedrums contribute with a musical performance. Johannes Heldén will also speak with Ida Bencke, the editor of Broken Dimanche Press, on ecology and animals, consciousness and the future. The discussion will be held in English.
In 2015, Johannes Heldén was granted Sweden’s highest art award from the Åke Andrén Foundation. The jury praised his ‘fiercely unique artistic direction’ and ‘highly individualistic, poetically minded GPS.’ Live music will be provided by duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums, who have released four acclaimed albums and toured the world.
This project is a collaboration between Dramaten& and Albert Bonniers Förlag, with additional funding provided from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee, the Swedish Performing Arts Agency and the Helge Ax:son Johnson Foundation.
