The Defeated The Aesthetics of Resistance 2026: The Aesthetics of Resistance and the Question of the School

Bonniers Konsthall in collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Studies in Political Aesthetics (IAS) present a series of lectures and discussions in preparation of the exhibition The Defeated: The Aesthetics of Resistance 2026, which opens at Bonniers Konsthall on August 26 and continues until November 8, 2026.

In The Aesthetics of Resistance, the antifascist struggle is closely related to the question of the school. It is through a critical appropriation of cultural forms – an aesthetic education, a popular education, a workers’ education – that the novel’s protagonists can understand themselves as the members of a we united in resistance. How should we understand that connection today, in relation to the ongoing destruction of the infrastructures of popular education, and the dismantlement of the critical human sciences, in Sweden and internationally?

Participants: Majsa Allelin (Senior Lecturer, Södertörn University), Ane Hjort Guttu (Artist, Oslo) and Gustav Strandberg (forskare Södertörns Högskola och IAS).

The program runs for two hours, including an interval.
