The Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation
Bonniers Konsthall has its roots in the Maria Bonnier Dahlin Foundation, which was founded in 1985 by Jeanette Bonnier in memory of her daughter Maria Bonnier Dahlin. Every year, the foundation awards a grant to a young Swedish artist. Bonniers Konsthall’s inaugural exhibition in September 2006 presented all previous grant recipients, including nowadays well-known artist like Cecilia Edefalk, Karin Mamma Andersson, Jacob Dahlgren and Gunnel Wåhlstrand.
The Bonnier family has been supporting culture and art for more than two centuries. The founding of Bonniers Konsthall is a continuation of this tradition. The venue is run on a non-profit basisunder the auspices of the Bonnier Group. The Bonnier Group is one of Scandinavia’s biggest media concerns with operations in the daily press, magazines, books, film and television.
Architecture
Bonniers Konsthall occupies the entire ground floor of the transparent triangular building at Torsgatan, designed by Johan Celsing Architects.
The architecture’s changing spatialities and glass facade facing the city reflects on Bonniers Konsthall’s desire to be an open and accessible venue, sensitive to new movements and changing expressions of contemporary art.
