Performance by Tarek Atoui

Composer Tarek Atoui, who this summer appeared at dOCUMENTA (13), will give a solo performance as the first instance of a long term project with Bonniers Konsthall. The performance will explore notions inherent to instrument making from different perspectives. The project is organized in collaboration with EMS (Electronic Music Studio) and Vitamin Creative Space.

Recognized not only for his performances, musical compositions and sound engineering, Atoui is also an inventor of DIY electronics. Seeking instruments that were light, modular and transportable, Atoui began creating electronic machines from second-hand toys, programmed and built to produce sounds triggered by certain movements of the body and of ‘playing’. By simultaneously composing, programming and rehearsing, each step of his practice is translated into the next, creating what Atoui calls “a triangular work process”.
