12:00 pm - 3:00 pmOn a number of occasions during the exhibition, dancers will activate the installation Untitled (Entitled) through a performance, choreographed by Jacqueline Hoàng Nguyễn.
The performance piece explores the movement of Newton’s pendulum, where bodies synchronise and uphold a temporary momentum through repetition and patterns. The work originated from the artist’s residency at SITE in Stockholm. Here she had the opportunity to cast dancers, and selected Ama Kyei, Andrea Svensson, Mona Namér and later in the process Gülbeden Kulbay. Together, they worked with themes that revolve around support structures, care, emotional work and synchronisation.
The score is crafted in close collaboration with the composer Thunder Tillman, and is organized in a series of sonic tableaues, where words, grammar and linguistic idiosyncrasies take centre stage. For example, one tableau explores the concept of tongue-twisters, a phrase that is designed to be difficult to articulate properly or to help improve one’s fluency. In this case, the sentence: “Je suis ce que je suis, et si je suis ce que je suis, qu’est-ce que je suis?” is used, which translates to: “I am what I am, and if I am what I am, what am I?” While being a playful challenge for the French-speaking tongue, it also unwittingly encapsulates the quintessential struggle between language and identity.
